Tea Tree Essential Oil review - Holy Grail for Acne Prone Skin !!

Hi Friends, 

I have been getting too many skin breakouts recently and acne was the obvious outcome .. which could happen to anyone due to some side effects of medicines or hormonal imbalance or even if you do not remove your makeup well with cleansing wash followed by a good quality toner.  

Now.. I had been hunting for the longest time to get something that could actually work on my skin .. something which was organic yet that could tone down my skin effectively and help get the balance again .So I frantically started searching for the right products and found multiple articles pointing to Tea Tree Oil.Tea tree, also known as melaleuca, is well-known for its powerful antiseptic properties and ability to treat wounds.It is applied to the skin (used topically) for infections such as acne, fungal infections etc as it has antibacterial , anti fungal and antiseptic properties.

This blog will talk about 5 different tea tree oils that I tried and their comparative study , so that each one of you can relate to the right product according to the availability of the product.

1. Organic Harvest Tea Tree Oil : Organic Harvest brings you a wide range of organic beauty care range products .The tea tree essential oil from Organic harvest was most effective on my skin as compared to all other 4 tea tree oils.

2. FabIndia Tree Tea Oil :Fabindia's range of authentic Personal care products includes skin and hair care products. FabIndia's tea tree oil has been quiet effective and is less in price as compared to other tea tree oils in market.

3. Ajmal Tree Tea Oil :A Dubai based brand with a rich heritage acquired through over 64 years of experience and know-how in the art of perfumery, and essential oils.The Ajmal tea tree oil worked well on my skin .Its quality was better than the fabindia one .It's a little expensive for a small quantity of product.

4. Oriflame Tree tea oil: Oriflame is a Swedish based company selling nature-inspired, innovative beauty products direct in more than 60 countries. It does not have pure tea tree oil , but a variant of mixed oils  consisting of tea tree and rosemary oil It is a lighter concentration oil as compared to other tea tree oils available in market , but gives the benefits of rosemary oil along with tea tree oil and is a little light on the skin.

5. TheBodyShop Tea tree oil:The Body Shop is an iconic British retail brand with an extensive and growing global presence.It is famous for offering natural and organic beauty products.The tea tree oil was as good as the FabIndia one , however it was much more pricey as compared to other tea tree oils available in the market.

 How to Use this product? :

Tea tree oil is essential oil which is usually very strong to be used directly on the blemishes and acne ,especially on sensitive skin , so it is advisable to use it with some carrier oil like coconut oil , olive oil or almond oil , or even mix say 4-5 drops of tea tree oil with one cup of water(prefer using drinking water rather than tap water)

Since tea tree oil has multiple uses , the directions for using it varies according the problem area you intend to target.

• For Dandruff - Add 1-2 drops of essential oil in head massage oil to control dandruff. Apply on the scalp and massage gently.

• For Acne - Apply a drop on acne spot.It will act as a perfect spot treatment.You can use an ear bud or your finger for the application. 

• For Nasal Congestion - Add 1 or 2 drops to an oil burner containing water and inhale.

• As Face wash: Add 1-2 drops in your face wash and cleanse your face with this.

• As Toner: Add few drops in water (drinking water ) and apple cider vinegar or plain water and store in a bottle. Include this in your morning as well as night skin routine right after face wash.

• As Face Cream: Add 2-3 drops in  your morning and night cream and apply.

• As Bath Oil: This one is obvious :) .. add 7-8 drops in a bucket full of water and use this water for bath.Avoid rinsing your eyes with this.

Do Not Massage or consume orally as it is toxic when consumed.All essential oils are flammable .Avoid using this during pregnancy.

 

What Did I like about tea tree essential oil :(in general)

• It is purely organic solution to multiple skin problems, so one of the best natural remedies available in the market.
• It is actually an OIL but is not really greasy! You can apply it and it gets absorbed leaving on greasiness on skin or hair.
• It is like a multipurpose problem solver as it can be used for various skin issues, fungal infections , bacterial infections and can be used over blemishes and small cuts too.
• When applied on an emerging pimple .. it does not let the pimple grow outside and reduces the bump on the skin eventually.
• It works excellent for removing fungal infections in nails . This is tried and tested , the tea tree oil was used for a month and it was able to remove one year old nail fungal infection and new nail started coming out.
• It works on bacteria/infection which are even antibiotic resistant.
• It does nothing over existing skin marks/blemishes.
• Packaging is good and hygienic as all brands come with either a screw cap or a dropper.
• It is more like a must have in your medical kit.

    

What did I dislike about this product :

• Pungent smell
• Causes stinging sensation.A LOT of stinging sensation.
• Should be used sparingly , as over use has severe side effects.
• Does nothing to existing blemishes.
• Does nothing to whiteheads and blackheads.
• It takes a lot of patience to cure the cystic acne , and need application of the oil multiple times at regular intervals to see significant results over a period of time.Almost in a gap of 2-3 hours.
• Works slow .. and usually one bottle is not sufficient for severe acne.
• Quiet Expensive for everyday use and small 10ml quantity.

    

Final Take !! : 

I think I am quiet satisfied with this one ! .. Individual ratings are given in the table above. 

Well my final take on this product is that it is a "Keeper".. All the 5 brands had more or less same effect on my skin and they helped me to tame my acne.Organic harvest however worked the best for me , and Fabindia gave me average result at a lower price.I found TBS and Ajmal very pricey with more or less similar effect as fabindia's tea tree oil. So my favorite would be Organic Harvest Tea tree essential oil.

It doesn't work overnight so you have to keep some patience and monitor its usage at regular intervals.Ensure to use it sparingly as over use has some ill effects. It tingles a lot initially but you will get habituated after few uses.I recommend doing a patch test if your skin is too sensitive.

Over all I say its worth a try and more natural and organic way to fight infections and get flawless skin and hair.
